When Death Comes Knocking...

“Death knows no denomination. Death draws no color line.” – Will Rogers

According to Consensus AI, approximately 150,000 people die each day worldwide from various causes. Cardiovascular diseases and infectious diseases are the leading causes of death, followed by cancer and respiratory diseases. Here are the breakdowns…

Cardiovascular diseases account for about 17.9 million deaths annually, which translates to roughly 49,041 deaths per day. Infectious diseases cause around 17 million deaths annually, equating to approximately 46,575 deaths per day. Cancer is responsible for about 5.2 million deaths annually, which is around 14,247 deaths per day. Seasonal flu-related respiratory diseases result in 290,000 to 650,000 deaths annually, averaging about 795 to 1,781 deaths per day. Meanwhile, asthma causes around 1,150 deaths per day. Suicide accounts for about 1 million deaths annually, translating to approximately 2,740 deaths per day.

The World Population Review cites a higher average number of daily deaths: 172,824. That breaks down to 7,201 per hour… 120 per minute… and 2 per second.

Because the United States has the third largest population in the world behind China and India, it naturally follows that America has the third most deaths per year. Because of our more affluent and sedentary lifestyle, the leading causes of death in the U.S. according to the National Center for Health Statistics (CDC) are Heart disease: 702,880; Cancer: 608,371; Accidents (unintentional injuries): 227,039; COVID-19: 186,552; Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 165,393; Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 147,382; Alzheimer’s disease: 120,122; Diabetes: 101,209; Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 57,937; and Chronic liver disease and cirrhosis: 54,803.

Life expectancy for Americans is 77.5 years and the Infant Mortality rate is 5.60 deaths per 1,000 live births. Of course, that doesn’t take into account the 1,026,690 preborn babies who were aborted in the United States in 2023 according to the Guttmacher Institute or the 73 million induced abortions that took place globally as per the World Health Organization (WHO). Those precious souls are in heaven with Jesus, but God’s wrath is sure to be poured out on mankind someday soon for allowing such a atrocity to occur.

In the meantime, even a casual reading of the aforementioned statistics – or Will Rogers quote, for that matter – drives home the inescapable conclusion that no one leaves this world alive. And so, my friend, please make your eternal “travel plans” now so your final destination isn’t left up for grabs.

“Just as man is appointed to die once, and after that to face judgment…” Hebrews 9:28 (BSB)
