What's That Floating In My Coffee?

“True faith is to see all the events in your life through God’s discerning filter.” – Os Hillman
Filters come in all shapes and sizes… and serve many different purposes. For instance, I wouldn’t want to drink my morning coffee without a filter keeping the grounds out of my mug. Aquariums would be cloudy, and their inhabitants would die without proper filtration. And here in the Sunshine State, it is dangerous to venture outside for very long without sunglasses to filter out some of the sun’s glare and more harmful rays.
Camera filters are also used to allow just the right amount of light… and to remove just the right number of wrinkles. But the filter that Os Hillman is referring to in today’s quote is more like a lens that eliminates worldly distractions so that God’s eternal perspective can be better seen and more fully appreciated.
When we look at life through such a spiritual lens, illnesses and injuries can be blessings… and obstacles can be opportunities. And yes, setbacks can be set ups for comebacks.
Just ask Jacob or Joseph or David or Samson or Moses or Abraham or Peter or Paul or Elijah or Job when you see them in heaven someday. I am confident that they will tell you that God worked everything in their lives for two purposes: His glory and their benefit and blessing.
The same goes for you and me, my friend. Not just a few and not just some and not just many and not just most. On the contrary, God works ALL things together for good if we love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
Claim that promise and you will never look at life – with all its highs and lows, its twists and turns – the same way again.
“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6 (ESV)
