What Language Will We Speak in Heaven?

“The believer can say, ‘I have a Brother in heaven. I may be poor, but I have a Brother who is rich and is a King, and will He allow me to be in want while He is on His throne? Oh, no! He loves me; He is my Brother.’” – C.H. Spurgeon

One of my older brothers has worked in the cruise ship industry for the past 30 years or so. He started as an entertainer, then became a cruise director, and eventually was hired to serve as Head of Entertainment for two different cruise lines (Costa and MSC).

Among the things that makes Gary so valuable to his employers is that he can speak eight different languages fluently. No, that is not a typo. In addition to his native tongue (English), my brother speaks French, German, Italian, Greek, Dutch, Russian, and Spanish. He currently makes his home near Genoa, Italy but he also lived – and still maintains an estate – in Normandy, France.

I remember visiting Gary one time when his cruise ship was docked in New York City. When the crew members learned that we were related to Gary, they treated my family and me like VIPs.

My friend, you and I are related by our spiritual rebirth to the Son of God and God the Father. It doesn’t get any more prestigious than that! And so, when we step onto the streets of gold in heaven, little ol’ you and me will be treated like VIPs there, too.

I wonder what language we will speak in Glory?

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, to proclaim the virtues of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” I Peter 2:9 (BSB)

“And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him.” Romans 8:17 (BSB)
