Wearing a Bright Yellow Uniform

“Everything changed when I stopped seeking the approval of other people.” – Robert Anthony Cruz
You probably have never heard of Robert Anthony Cruz, because he is not a household name. Unless, of course, you are a diehard fan of the Savannah Bananas, a barnstorming baseball team that is based in Savannah, GA.
The Bananas play a very unorthodox brand of baseball, adopting 11 unique rules that place an emphasis on continuous play and fan involvement. In fact, the most famous rule employed at a Bananas game is that if a fan catches a foul ball, the batter is out!
Dressed in bright yellow uniforms, the Bananas players are part-athletes and part-entertainers. As for Cruz, he is known simply as “Coach RAC”.
Crus believes that he has finally found his niche with the Bananas. “I was made to do exactly what I’m doing right now,” Cruz said. “I have so many skills that have prepared me for this. I do video, I did gymnastics growing up and can still do back handsprings and back tucks.”
“When you get yourself wrapped up in what other people might think of you, you might get paralyzed by fear, as I was at several different parts of my career,” Cruz added. “But if you have your self-worth and you’re not seeking that affirmation, then you are freed up to do what you were maybe made to do.”
Sounds like a paraphrase of I Peter 2:9, which reads in the KJV as follows: “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” That phrase “a peculiar people” is translated as “His own special people” in the NKJV and “a people for God’s own possession” in the BSB.
I don’t know about you, my friend, but I want to be God’s own possession even if that means the rest of the world thinking I am peculiar. And yes, I’d be glad to wear a bright yellow uniform if necessary!
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2 (ESV)
