"Many believers lose their strength as Samson lost his hair, while sleeping on the lap of carnal security.” – C.H. Spurgeon

Samson had it all – good looks, superhuman strength, and most importantly, the anointing and favor of God. Unfortunately for the Nazirite, he also had a weakness that was public knowledge. Simply put, Samson was an incorrigible ladies’ man, and they knew it… as did Satan and his minions.

Israel’s judge, who had single-handedly killed 1,000 Philistines with a donkey’s jawbone, was putty in Delilah’s hands. Eventually, Samson’s carnality cost him his hair, his strength, his freedom, his sight, and his life. That’s an extremely high price to pay for a few hours of pleasure!

Here is how Charles Spurgeon, the “Prince of Preachers”, elaborated on this subject…

“With a perishing world around us, to sleep is cruel; with eternity so close at hand, it is madness… None of us are as awake as we should be; a few thunderclaps would do us all good.”

And then a parting admonition…

“May we leave forever the couch of fleshly ease, and go out with flaming torches to meet the coming Bridegroom!”

“Then the Philistines seized him [Samson], gouged out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, where he was bound with bronze shackles and forced to grind grain in the prison.” Judges 16:21 (BSB)

“And while they went to buy [oil for their lamps], the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.” Matthew 25:10 (NKJV)
