“Do right because it is right to do right.” – F.B. Meyer
Sometimes, we make life a lot more complicated than it is… or needs to be. Even in today’s fast-paced world with technological “advances” occurring at rapid-fire speed, there are certain foundational truths that can simplify the process. One of them is mentioned in today’s quote.
Far too often, we weigh our actions based solely on their possible or probable outcomes. Let me give you an example…
Years ago, I asked why a church was allowing a lady to teach a children’s Sunday School class when everyone knew that she was very publicly living with her boyfriend out-of-wedlock. “Well, if we say something to her about it, we’re afraid that she will leave the church,” I was told by a congregational leader.
Excuse me? Instead of lovingly, but forcefully confronting her about her sin and giving her the opportunity to repent, the church leaders followed the path of least resistance and decided not to risk ruffling any feathers.
Billy Graham once said that one of the biggest problems in America was that we are afraid of offending everyone, but God. In other words, we will not call someone out for opening violating God’s Word (after removing the plank from our own eye first), because we don’t want to hurt their feelings or lose their friendship. And so, willful sin continues unabated in the church… and in government… and in society in general.
Meanwhile, God’s longsuffering patience has begun to wear thin as the United States – and the world at-large – continues to thumb its collective nose at Him.
God will not be mocked, my friend, and Judgment Day is coming. Better to obey God by doing the right things for the right reasons… and leaving the consequences to Him.
“Brothers, if someone is caught in a trespass, you who are spiritual should restore him with a spirit of gentleness. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.” Galatians 6:1 (BSB)
