“As the ship speeds toward the port, so hurries the believer toward the haven of his Savior’s heart. As the arrow flies to its target, so the Christian flies toward the perfecting of his fellowship with Christ Jesus. As the soldier fights for his captain and is crowned in his captain’s victory, so the believer contends for Christ and gets his triumph out of the triumphs of his Master.” – C.H. Spurgeon

I have been battling vertigo for the past several months. Sometimes, the episodes are relatively mild and pass quickly without incident. However, at other times, they strike like a tsunami, with the room around me spinning wildly in a counterclockwise direction while wave after wave of nausea washes over me.

One of the worst – and most debilitating – attacks I’ve had came on a Sunday afternoon and lasted for more than four hours. I felt like I was in the opening scene of the Wizard of Oz, lying flat on my back while my bed was sent airborne by a twister… only I don’t remember Dorothy vomiting until she had the dry heaves. Ugh!

To make matters worse, Deanna and I were scheduled to go on a short mini-cruise to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary just three days later. Would I recover in time? And how would I deal with the swaying of the ship if the sea got rough between Riviera Beach and Freeport?

Well, we decided to pray, take lots of Dramamine, and trust God. And guess what? The water was like glass, and I didn’t have a single vertigo attack… PTL!

Of course, I’ve had multiple episodes since then and I go to see an ENT next week. But when it counted the most, God delivered! I trust that He will do the same for you, my friend.

"When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the great storm continued to batter us, we abandoned all hope of being saved. After the men had gone a long time without food, Paul stood up among them and said, 'Men, you should have followed my advice not to sail from Crete. Then you would have averted this disaster and loss. But now I urge you to keep up your courage, because you will not experience any loss of life, but only of the ship.'” Acts 27:20-22 (BSB)
