Little Cabin In the Woods

“What a serene and quiet life might you lead if you would leave providing to the God of providence!” – C.H. Spurgeon

When our lives start to get a little too hectic and crazy, Deanna has a habit of singing a short ditty. It goes like this…

Little cabin in the wood
Little man by the window stood
Saw a rabbit hopping by
Knocking at the door

"Help me, help me, help me" he said
"Or the hunter will shoot me dead"
Little rabbit, come inside
Safely to abide

Do you ever feel like that, too? Does hiding out in the safety, security, and solitude of a small rustic cabin far from the demands of this fast-paced world sound appealing to you?

Our son, Chris, and his lovely bride Rachael spent their honeymoon last fall in such a place. Ellijay is located in the mountains of northwest Georgia and is known for its quaint shops and cafes, its acres of fruit orchards, and its relative peace and tranquility. Places like Ellijay are great for summer vacations or even weekend getaways. However, after a short time of rest and relaxation, most of us have to return to the “real world” where we live, work, and raise our families. But when we do, it’s helpful to adopt the mindset described by Charles Spurgeon below…

“With a little oil in the cruse and a handful of meal in the barrel, Elijah outlived the famine, and you will do the same. If God cares for you, why do you need to care too? Can you trust Him for your soul and not for your body? He has never refused to bear your burdens; He has never fainted under their weight. Come, then, soul! Say good-bye to anxiety and leave all your concerns in the hand of a gracious God.”

Breathe deeply, exhale, and keep trusting God…

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

“There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.” Hebrews 4:9
