Jesus's Face and Deanna's Kiss

“So many of God’s kids seek His hand only instead of His face, His presence.” – Os Hillman
What is the purpose of a hand? Well, amongst other things, it provides and protects. And so, the hand of God does exactly that: providing for our needs and protecting us from harm… and from our enemies.
However, a face is much more intimate. It reveals emotions and contains our eyes (the window to our soul); our nose (which allows us to breathe); our mouth (used to confess Jesus as Lord and to sing His praises); and our ears (with which we hear God’s voice and beautiful music).
Let me put it another way. After 38 years of marriage, I still thoroughly enjoy holding hands with Deanna. However, I would much rather look at her face, which I find quite attractive. Deanna’s face also reveals to me her innermost thoughts and feelings… and delivers quite a kiss, too!
Why anyone, let alone a Christian, would want to settle for holding God’s hand when they could also behold His face and gaze into His eyes is beyond me. Thankfully, as believers, we will all see Jesus face-to-face someday.
In the meantime, try meditating on these verses…
“Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.” Matthew 17:1-2 (NKJV)
“For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.” I Corinthians 13:12 (NKJV)
“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV)
“And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads.” Revelation 22:3-4 (NKJV)
