“Do not look at circumstances; look at God.” – Os Hillman

A few weeks ago, I crunched some numbers and knew that I needed to take bold and immediate action. But before I did, I did something even more important: I prayed. Then, I prayed again, even harder. Finally, I took some prudent action and trusted God for the results.

Let me tell you how things worked out…

First, the numbers I crunched dealt with Risk Takers for Christ’s finances. Simply put, we were running about a month late on payroll and our credit card bills – which we make a point of paying in full each month – were starting to accumulate. And so, I sent out our quarterly fundraising letter and then broke down our financial needs based on which deadlines were coming due first.

When God brought in sufficient funds, I paid our American Express bill in full… and on time. A few days later, I was able to deposit my housing allowance for September. Next, God provided enough money to cover our payroll taxes and check processing fees for September. Then, He supplied the funds to pay our two part-time employees and to keep our VISA bill current.

Now I am waiting on Him to supply what is needed to cover my September salary. With just a few days left in the month, it looks like a “heavy lift.” But then again, I sure wouldn’t bet against God performing yet another miracle, something He often does at the very last minute.

My friend, God cares about your needs, financial and otherwise. So, when you are behind the 8-ball, try my simple formula. Pray, pray again, take decisive action, and then wait on the Lord.

More than anything, keep your eyes off your circumstances… and on Jesus instead.

“Lord, if it is You,” Peter replied, “command me to come to You on the water.” “Come,” said Jesus. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and took hold of Peter. “You of little faith,” He said, “why did you doubt?” And when they had climbed back into the boat, the wind died down.” Matthew 14:28-32 (BSB)
