I Am a Dinosaur... and Proud of It

“These days, it almost seems quaint to make a list of taken-for-granted American traits: determination, the need for rigorous education, delayed gratification, and even stoicism.” – Thomas Boswell
I am a dinosaur... and proud of it.
By that I mean that I listen to Frank Sinatra on the radio, love watching old black and white movies on TV, and veraciously devour books about American history… and the people who helped shape our great nation. For instance, I just finished reading a biography about Ernie Banks, the great Chicago Cubs shortstop and first baseman, and I am almost done with David McCullough’s NY Times bestseller about the Wright Brothers.
Next up is a thin biography of “Bad Bill” Dahlen, who played in the major Leagues from 1891 to 1911… and Crazy ’08, a story about the 1908 baseball season. After that, I plan to tackle a biography about Thomas Edison, a book about the Great Depression titled “The Forgotten Man,” and two books by Bret Baier – Three Days in January (about Dwight Eisenhower) and Three Days in Moscow (about Ronald Reagan).
In other words, the older the better as far as I am concerned.
Why do I enjoy turning back the clock so much? Mostly because I cherish the same values that people did 50, 75, and 100 years ago… or more. The ones that Thomas Boswell cited in today’s quote.
Faith… family… freedom isn’t just a catchphrase that I use on my political blog. It encapsulates my entire belief system. Those foundational principles and personal priorities were once shared by the vast majority of Americans, but their number is dwindling and their allegiance is wavering.
Folks, we desperately need to return to the Judeo-Christian principles upon which America was founded. That is why I pray fervently for a nationwide spiritual revival akin to the First and Second Great Awakenings.
Now where did I put that biography of Harry Truman that I bought at a yard sale recently?
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV)
