“As the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so the Lord rejoices over us.” – C.H. Spurgeon
It was a warm Saturday afternoon in June of 1985. I stood at the front of the church alongside my best man and four other groomsmen, staring down the aisle at the most glorious sight this side of heaven. Walking down the green-shaded carpet, arm-in-arm with her father, was my beautiful bride.
Since that day, Deanna has only grown prettier inside and out, and the love I had for her then pales in comparison with the love I have for her now. After 38 years together, I simply can’t imagine life without her.
In today’s quote, Charles Spurgeon uses a marriage analogy to emphasize how much God loves us and how much joy we bring to Him. It is hard to imagine that Jesus would desire us that much or that the Father would see us as flawless because of His Son’s sacrifice on the cross, but both of those statements are true. Don’t take my word for it… take God’s.
“For as a young man marries a young woman, so your sons will marry you; and as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so your God will rejoice over you.” Isaiah 62:5 (BSB)
“Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came to me and talked with me, saying, ‘Come, I will show you the bride, the Lamb’s wife.’” Revelation 21:9 (NKJV)
