Have You Hit a Dead End?

“Faith is the currency for miracles.” – Os Hillman
Moses didn’t have the advantage of GPS as he led the Israelites through the wilderness. Instead, God instructed him to follow the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night. Imagine his surprise when Moses realized that God had led him straight into a dead end at the Red Sea!
Os Hillman had this to say about that seemingly impossible situation…
“Did you notice that God intentionally led Moses to a dead end? He does that sometimes, you know. He gets more glory that way, when there is no way out.”
As we all know, God parted the Red Sea for the Israelites to pass through on dry land. However, that parting didn’t begin until – at God’s command – Moses lifted his rod and stretched out his hand.
In similar fashion, God parted the waters of the Jordan River for Joshua and his attacking force, but it took the priests who were carrying the Ark of the Covenant to dip their feet into the river first. That’s called obedience… and faith in action.
Both of those instances remind me of Lord Cornwallis and the Battle of Yorktown. Expecting to be relieved and reinforced by the British navy, Cornwallis led his troops onto a peninsula near Jamestown, VA. Unfortunately for him, those reinforcements never came because of a blockade by the French navy.
Three dead ends, two of which ended in victory and the third one in defeat. The difference was Moses and Joshua had faith in God and Cornwallis had faith in man.
My friend, in whom are you placing YOUR faith today?
“And without faith it is impossible to please God. For anyone who approaches Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6 (BSB)
“So Jesus said to them, ‘Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.’” Matthew 17:20 (NKJV)
