God Blows My Mind

“The Christian's life is a matchless riddle. The unconverted cannot comprehend it; even the believer himself cannot understand it. Dead, yet alive! Crucified with Christ, and yet at the same time risen with Christ in newness of life!” – C.H. Spurgeon

There are many things in life I simply don’t understand. For instance, I can’t quite grasp how I can dial a number on my cell phone and within seconds, someone on the other side of the world can hear me speak in real time. I also don’t understand how electricity lights and heats my house… or how an internal combustion engine propels my truck down the road at 70 mph. Trying to figure out how the internet operates is far above my pay grade, too.

In the spiritual realm, I don’t fully comprehend the various attributes of God either. He is 100% holy and just, but He is also 100% loving and merciful. The manner in which He formed the universe out of nothing can also be a bit confusing; and the way He preserved Noah and his family (and two of every animal) in the ark while He flooded the entire earth is likewise mindboggling. Add to those instances His parting of the Red Sea, as well as His deliverance of Daniel from the lion’s den – and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego from the fiery furnace – and my head starts to spin.

So how should we treat something that we cannot fully comprehend or explain scientifically? Simply, by accepting it by faith. I may come across as naïve, but when God says something in His Word, I choose to believe it at face value and move on. In fact, I take great comfort in the fact that I can’t “wrap my head” around God. After all, if I could, He would be pretty small now, wouldn’t He?

My friend, our limited intellect cannot begin to fathom the depths of God’s knowledge, power, and character. So, please join me in exercising childlike faith and trusting Him instead.

“Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” Mark 10:15 (NKJV)
