Freckles, Moles, and Liver Spots

“The Church of Christ then will be so pure that not even the eye of Omniscience will see a spot or blemish in her.” – C.H. Spurgeon

Here in Florida, annual skin exams are a must. The sun’s warmth may feel good to our aching and aging bodies, but the ultraviolet rays it emits can wreak havoc with our skin.

Virtually everyone I know who has lived in the Sunshine State for a period of time has had a suspicious spot or two removed by a dermatologist. In fact, I’ve had a couple of precancerous spots sprayed with a freezing agent and Deanna has had a few spots surgically removed herself.

You never know when that innocent freckle, mole, or “liver spot” will turn into something far more serious – and potentially deadly – so make an appointment with a dermatologist today.

Meanwhile, let’s remember that God looks at us with a gaze far more penetrating than a dermatologist, because He looks not at our outward appearance but at our heart (I Samuel 16:7). That truth can be both comforting and convicting.

Here are a few Bible verses that reiterate the point that Charles Spurgeon made in today’s quote…

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her to sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to Himself as a glorious church, without stain or wrinkle or any such blemish, but holy and blameless.” Ephesians 5:25-27 (BSB)

“Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones You have crushed rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities.” Psalm 51:7-9 (BSB)

“Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.” Isaiah 1:18 (ESV)

“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” I Thessalonians 5:23 (NKJV)
