“Show rich men how rich you are in your poverty when the Lord God is your helper. Show the strong man how strong you are in your weakness when underneath you are the everlasting arms.” – C.H. Spurgeon

If you are like me, having more bills than money at the end of the month is not uncommon… especially as a full-time missionary without a guaranteed paycheck. Likewise, after 36 years of ministry I don’t have a pension or what I once imagined I would have in savings. And so, it looks like I will have to keep working for a few more years until Social Security kicks in and/or I win the Irish Sweepstakes.

Hmmm, it’s hard to win something when you’ve never entered.

But do you know what? I am still the richest man in the entire world, bar none! Don’t believe me? Then I guess I will just have to prove it to you.

First and foremost, my sins are forgiven, which means I am a child of the King and have a mansion being custom-built for me in Glory. I assume that my residence is being built with some of the same precious jewels that comprise the walls of the New Jerusalem… and that my driveway will be paved with gold, just like heaven’s streets.

In addition, I have untold riches on deposit in the First National Bank of Heaven because I have done my best to forgo this world’s treasures so that I could pursue eternal ones. You know, the kind that don’t rust or get stolen or get eaten by moths.

Meanwhile, back here on Planet Earth, I have a beautiful bride of 38 years, three adult children who know Jesus and seek to serve Him, and six precious grandchildren who bring me immeasurable joy. I also have a roof over my head, food on my table, and clothes on my back. As if that wasn’t enough, I have family and friends galore who love me “warts and all.”

And yes, I also own a nice set of golf clubs to pursue my favorite leisure time activity. Life is good for this supposedly poor man!

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21 (NKJV)
