Devoured Assets and Eternal Dividends

Over the past week, two U.S. banks have gone under. The Silicon Valley Bank was the 16th largest bank in the country before it was taken over by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
The SVB Financial Group has (or had) subsidiaries in 13 states and more than a dozen foreign countries. Because it financed more than 50% of all tech start-ups, SVB’s collapse has sent shock waves throughout the financial world, especially the tech sector.
Signature Bank, which is based in New York State, also failed last week. At the end of 2022, it had $110.4 billion in total assets; $82.6 billion in deposits; and $65.25 billion in loans. Today, it is 100% insolvent. Meanwhile, Credit Suisse, a 167-year-old bank with more than 50,000 employees worldwide, is teetering on the brink of collapse with its shares down more than 25% and trading at all-time lows.
If ever there was a time to make sure that your deposits were safe and secure in the First National Bank of Heaven, where thieves can’t steal them and moths can’t eat them, it would be now (see Matthew 6:19-20). One thing that the Great Recession of 2008 taught us is that earthly assets can be devalued and devoured in mere minutes. Whether or not we are entering a time of worldwide economic turmoil remains to be seen. However, sending our treasures ahead of us to Glory is the smartest financial and spiritual decision you could ever make.
For a Christian, the only currency that matters is faith. Saving faith, placed in Jesus Christ and secured by His shed blood, guarantees you entrance into heaven. And here on earth, that same faith can move mountains, literally and figuratively (see Matthew 17:20).
If I were you, I would invest in Jesus! I did in 1977… and I’ve been enjoying eternal dividends ever since.
