Calling Constable Crabtree

“Just remember one chapter doesn’t make an entire book. The very next chapter can change your entire perspective on things. It may seem like it is the end of the world, but we just need to flip a couple of pages sometimes to understand that this too shall pass.” – Bob Williamson
Deanna and I enjoy watching murder mysteries on TV and trying to guess the culprit before he or she is revealed at the end. One of our favorites is Murdoch Mysteries, a Canadian series set in Toronto at the turn of the 20th century.
Flanked by Inspector Thomas Brackenreid, Constable George Crabtree, and Dr. Julia Ogden (the city coroner), Detective William Murdoch employs unique scientific methods to hunt down the guilty parties. Along the way, he meets – and is often assisted by – the likes of William “Buffalo Bill” Cody, Thomas Edison, Bat Masterson, Annie Oakley, Nikola Tesla, Mark Twain, and a host of other colorful characters.
Just when you think you have the crime figured out – and the killer identified – there is a plot twist that sets you back on your heels, forcing you to start the process all over again. In similar fashion, Bob Williamson admonishes us in today’s quote not to rush to judgment because the next chapter, the next page, or even the next paragraph can change matters entirely.
It is often said that in Florida, if you don’t like the weather, just wait about 10 minutes. In other words, thunderstorms hit out of nowhere… and then disappear just as quickly. Because our fortunes in life can turn on a dime, it is best not to get too high when things are going well or too low when the bottom drops out momentarily.
I try to take the same approach on the golf course. For every bad bounce, there seems to be a good one. At the end of the day (or the round), things usually even out.
The one constant is Jesus, who promises to never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Indeed, He is the Friend who sticks closer than a brother, through thick and thin (Proverbs 18:24).
God’s love is no mystery. It is simply a fact.
“And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.” I John 4:16 (NKJV)
