Be a Wise Guy (or Gal) for Jesus!

“Our great object in living is to glorify God, and we mainly achieve this end by the winning of souls." – C.H. Spurgeon
A friend of mine who lives in Louisiana recently shared a picture on Facebook that was deeply disturbing. Under a caption that read, “At my church this morning”, he posted the following screenshot…
“The average Christian attending church sings over 500 songs and hymns, listens to over 200 Bible messages every year, and does not share the gospel with one person.”
GULP!!!
The screenshot didn’t say that the average Christian doesn’t lead someone to saving faith in Christ, but that he or she doesn’t even try!
How can that be true? As Christians, we know the true meaning of life and we also possess the cure for man’s sin disease. But if this meme is true, we have selfishly chosen to keep that truth – and that cure – to ourselves.
My guess is that most people do so out of fear. Yes, the fear of being ridiculed and rejected makes us clam up like a defendant “pleading the 5th” …even though Jesus commanded us to shout the Good News from the rooftops (Matthew 10:27) and to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). I just read those verses for the umpteenth time and have yet to find a loophole letting us off the hook.
As Charles Spurgeon put it, “We must see souls born unto God. If we do not win souls, we should mourn as the farmer who sees no harvest, as the fisherman who returns to his cottage with an empty net, or as the hunter who has roamed in vain over hill and dale… As ambassadors of peace, we should not cease to weep bitterly until sinners weep for their sins.”
During my first decade as a believer, I only led a single person to Jesus. That is both shameful and inexcusable. However, since then I have witnessed to more than 500,000 people (mostly inmates) and an estimated 30,000 of them trusted Christ as their Savior.
If I can do that – with all my faults and shortcomings – so can you!
