A Star Is Born

“How glorious is Jesus when the will is subdued and sin dethroned!” – C.H. Spurgeon

I have used this illustration before, but it bears repeating…

I grew up in South Jersey, less than 10 miles from Philadelphia, and so our nighttime skies were never completely dark. The glow of the nearby city lights kept you from seeing everything the heavens had to offer.

However, when I started traveling to rural southcentral Pennsylvania to date Deanna, I couldn’t believe the number of stars that filled the nighttime sky. It was absolutely breathtaking! I used to tell her that it looked like we were being invaded by aliens.

The crazy thing is that those stars were there all along, but I just couldn’t see them because of the city lights that obscured my view back in New Jersey. And that, my friend, is what happens when sin enters our lives.

Jesus never changes, but our sin often blocks us from seeing and experiencing Him in all His radiant glory. However, when we turn those areas of our life over to Him, Jesus starts shining brighter and brighter.

In Psalm 139, David offered the following prayer: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”

May that be your prayer and mine every single day!

“When I behold Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place – what is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You care for him? You made him a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor.” Psalm 8:3-5 (BSB)

“After six days Jesus took with Him Peter, James, and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.” Matthew 17:1-2 (BSB)
