"Everybody has bad days, but how you respond to it is a testament to whether you are a winner or a loser." - Aaron Gordon, American Basketball Player

Aaron Gordon is a 29-year-old professional basketball player who plays for the Denver Nuggets. Before embarking on his NBA career, he led his high school team to two state championships, twice being named “California Mr. Basketball” in the process. He then attended the University of Arizona for a year, leading the Wildcats to a PAC-12 title and a berth in the Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament.

Selected by the Orlando Magic as the fourth overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft, Gordon was traded to the Nuggets in 2021. After averaging 12.9 points per game in Orlando, Gordon is averaging 14.5 ppg in Denver and was a big contributor to the Nuggets first-ever NBA championship in 2023.

From reading that brief bio, one would think that Gordon has lived a charmed life… and to a degree he has. After all, he signed a 4-year guaranteed contract with the Nuggets that pays him a $21,660,000 per year ($86,640,001 total). However, if you take Gordon at his word – and Scripture at face value – I am sure he has had his share of trials and tribulations with more to come.

My friend, no one goes through life unscathed and unharmed. From the movie stars in Hollywood to the powerbrokers in Washington D.C., everyone experiences peaks and valleys in life. Whereas it is true that some people have a tougher row to hoe, the difference is how we handle those challenges… and the key to how we handle those challenges is Who travels that road with us.

Are we so prideful and arrogant that we try to go it alone or do we reach out to others for help? Most of all, do we place our faith and trust in Jesus Christ to walk every mile with us?

If you haven’t already, I strongly encourage you to surrender your life to Jesus and start following His path for your life, leaning on the promise that He will never leave nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). Also, don’t be afraid to ask someone for help when you’re struggling… and to offer assistance when you see someone having difficulty themselves.

“I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!” John 16:33 (BSB)
