A Battling Codger

“It is at once the most Christlike and the most happy course for a believer to stop living for himself.” – C.H. Spurgeon

When people ask why I ran for public office or why I still speak out on political issues, I give them six very good reasons. Their names are Brady, Sadie, Levi, Dylan, Bella, and Charlotte.

Simply put, I have lived a relatively full life and so have our three adult children. But our precious grandkids are just getting started on their life’s journey and I will do everything in my power to see that it is a good trip.

As an “Eisenhower baby” who was born in the last few months of his second term, I enjoyed a tranquil childhood in an America that still upheld traditional values. To some extent, Bethany, Matthew, and Christopher did likewise, although the world was a bit more dangerous in the 90s when they were kids than when “Ike” was in office. Sadly, the country that “Brady & Company” will inherit is a far cry from the God-fearing one that we once took for granted.

You don’t have to look any farther than last week’s signing by President Biden of the purposely misnamed Respect for Marriage Act. This atrocious new law codifies same-sex marriage throughout the U.S., literally spitting in God’s face by redefining His definition of marriage. Because God will not be mocked (see Galatians 6:7), I think it is safe to say that He will eventually judge America for its gross immorality and sexual sin… and for aborting 63 million babies since 1973.

Today, at the ripe old age of 63, I will continue to live – and fight for – Jesus first, my family second, and the Judeo-Christian principles that our country was founded upon third. Just like Caleb, this old codger plans to battle hard to the very end and to go down swinging!

“And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, just as he said, these forty-five years since the time that the LORD spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. And now, behold, I am this day eighty-five years old. I am still as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war and for going and coming. So now give me this hill country of which the LORD spoke on that day, for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the LORD said.” Joshua 14:10-12 (ESV)
